PPL (Aeroplane)
The modular training programmes for commercial pilots in the European Union provides for initial training with obtaining a private pilot licence (PPL) in accordance with EASA regulations.
ATPL (Frozen) Aeroplane
The following training should be completed by PPL students to obtain a commercial pilot licence (ATPL (Frozen)).
1. In the first stage after PPL obtaining, the PPL pilot conducts independent flights on Tecnam P2008JC VFR aeroplane to gain skills and experience in communicating with air traffic control. The number of hours depends on the number of hours previously flown under the PPL training module. The average flight volume required is around 100 hours. This module is conducted at Adazi airfield (Latvia).
2. In the second stage, parallel to flying, the student studies the theory for the airline transport pilot licence - ATP theory. The programme is designed for 650 hours of self-study via computer-based training (CBT). At the same time, the school's theoretical instructor conducts revision days in classroom to monitor students’ progress and answer students' questions. The training ends with examination on all 13 subjects at ERIVA flight school (pass rate - 80%) and then at Civil Aviation Authority of Latvia (pass rate - 75%). The time needed to study the ATP theory depends on the student’s efforts and the time spent on lessons each day. A student who actively engages with the teaching materials can complete the theory in 6-8 months.
3. In the third stage, after reaching the total minimum number of flight hours of practical training on Tecnam P2008JC VFR - 144 hours, the student is trained in the flight module on a twin-engine aeroplane Tecnam P2006T - MEP class rating - 6 hours, then starts the basic instrument flight module - ME IR BIFM - 5 hours.
4. In the fourth stage the student continues training in the Instrument flight module on FNPT II simulator - 40 hours (ME IR BIFM, ME IR PIFM). At the same time, the student completes training under the Night Rating Program (VFR) - 5 hours, as well as flights in the module for professional pilots - CPL(VFR) - 10 hours. The training takes place at Adazi Airport (Latvia) and at ERIVA ATO FNPTII Training Center in Riga (Latvia). The training time is approximately 22 days, depending on the weather conditions and the student's ability to master the program.
5. In the fifth stage, the student completes the instrument flight training program - ME IR PIFM - 10 hours, and by this time must be ready to pass the skill test for commercial pilot license – (LST).
6. Sixth stage – complex skill test under the CPL, MEP CR, ME IR programs (2.5 hours) for obtaining a commercial pilot license (CPL).
